Music

Mrs. Mary Bentley

Curriculum Overview:

The music program at Holy Cross teaches children to read, write, listen to, perform, analyze and compose music. All students attend weekly music class. In the lower grades, students learn about music fundamentals such as rhythm, melody, tempo and dynamics. As the students progress through the music program, they are introduced to the elements of music theory. Performance and music appreciation are part of music class in all grades.

There are many opportunities for students to participate in music activities outside of class. The Lower School Choir (grades 3 through 5) and the Middle School Choir (grades 6 through 8) provide music for school masses and perform at the Christmas Program and Spring Arts Night Concert. All students in PreK through fifth grade perform in the Christmas Program. The middle school presents a spring musical, and the band (taught by Mr. Doug Harvey) performs two concerts per year. All students are encouraged to participate in the music programs at Holy Cross.
