Curriculum Overview:

The Pre-Kindergarten curriculum is based on the academic standards of the Archdiocese of Washington. A portion of our day is spent with the children participating in centers while working within a small group. Centers allows the teacher an opportunity to acknowledge and encourage each child’s efforts, to model and demonstrate, to create challenges and support children in extending their capabilities, provide specific directions and instruction, and organize their school time in such a way that the children can work on their goals. Age appropriate center activities allow for different levels of ability, development and learning styles. Centers are based in the following developmental areas: Religion, Language Arts, Match, Science, Social Studies, Art, Gross/Fine Motor and Social/Emotional.

    Education:
I graduated from the University of Maryland and several years later received my Masters of Education (PK-6) from Marymount University. My career at Holy Cross School began in 2002 as the Teacher’s Assistant in the Pre-K classroom. The following school year I was selected to become the lead Pre-K teacher at Holy Cross School. My years here have been a blessing in my life and I look forward to continuing to provide a classroom environment rooted within the Catholic faith.

    About:

Most of my free time is spent with my husband, three daughters, two labs and all of our extended family. Even though it seldom happens, one of my favorite pastimes is to read on the beach while listening to the sounds of the surf.

Teacher Bio – Mrs. Lorraine Branson

    Education:
I graduated from Rosemont College with a degree in Psychology and Elementary Education.

    About:

After graduating from Rosemont, I worked in Human Resources for a trade association in Washington, DC. For the last 17 years, I stayed home to raise our family and have returned to work now that our daughters are in high school. The Pre-K classroom is a very rewarding environment which allows me to share my faith with the children as they are beginning their Catholic faith.
